Insiders are telling The New York Daily News that Katie Couric is not happy about the gossipy new direction of her talk show, Katie. (Fun fact, do you know what we call our insiders here at TrashTalkTV? Google) Apparently Katie’s ratings were less than spectacular since premiering in September of 2012, and what with one of the show’s executive producers being let go, and Rachel Miskowiec executive producer of The Tyra Banks Show, Katie is rumored to worried her show is going to be dumbed down. Couric, who is also a co-executive producer on the show, is upset at being “dumbed down,” a source says, and was set on calling it quits after season one. Then Miskowiec arrived and promised a nice middle ground of hard-hitting news and softer fare — but count on it being more on the light side, says our source. “If there is one thing Katie hates more than being called ‘perky,’ it’s being called ‘tabloid,’ ” our source says. “She thinks of herself as a serious journalist, covering stories that make a difference. She’s fighting this.” Okay, so on the one hand Katie Couric wants to be taken seriously as a journalist and a reporter. That’s great, and it’s something to strive for. On the other hand I really don’t think there is a huge demand for a serious news show syndicated news show on Monday through Friday afternoons.Especially one called Katie. Anyway, there are a lot of rumors floating around, including one where Katie Couric is supposed to follow Jeff Zucker to CNN, which everyone says is BS, but hey, it’s still out there. Anyway, if I was Katie Couric I’d be a lot more worried about other things than whether her new producer is going to make her go to McDonalds in a fat suit. For starters, the stylist who thought showing the world your actual hairline was a good idea
