Previously on Hell’s Kitchen, Jon got a whole lot of lady lovin’ (not the good kind) due to being the only male chef left in the competition and the chefs got visits from family. I’m not one to hate on people’s families…it was cute, and chefs loved the visit. Chef Ramsey decided to award all five of the remaining chefs black jackets, then asked each to make a stunning five-star dish using a pressure cooker. Mary won the challenge, barely edging out Ja’Nel, and was able to enjoy a day with her Mom and bro while the other chefs shoveled wood chips, dug out eroded hillsides and sorted garbage. At the end of last week’s episode, Ramsey told the chefs that the next dinner service would be particularly difficult not only because it was the first time they’d be working as one team but because he was bringing in all-star chefs to compete against them. We got the “to be continued” just before our all-stars were revealed. Caught up? Good…because it’s time for the continuation of Hell’s Kitchen! The opening credits make me sad that sassy Nedra is gone. She was fun to recap. Le sigh. Moving on, who will these all-stars be? The chefs wait with bated breath…first is Rock, the winner of HK Season 3. I am already struggling not to refer to him as “The Rock.” Next is Christina, winner of HK Season 4. Susan is geeking out hard core about that selection (still in her towel turban). I love goofy pics of this chick. I can’t help it. Next up is Dave, another previous HK winner, and one who apparently battled through a broken wrist in order to win his season. Then Ramsey brings out Nona, the winner of HK season 8 and finally Paul, the winner of HK season 9. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really watch previous seasons of this show regularly so this big reveal set me to Googlin’. Apparently this is the first time former HK winners have been brought back to cook against current contestants. Rams immediately sets the teams to work designing one stunning appetizer and one stunning entree they’ll add to their menus during the following evening’s dinner service. Our current contestants enthusiastically run back to the dorms to start brainstorming. In Susan’s case, however it’s more like braindrizzling. Her inspired ideas include sliders and “steakhouse style apps,” whatever those are. Mary suggests beef tartare and Ja’Nel is on board immediately. The former champs set to work immediately as well, but without the jumpy enthusiasm of a basket of puppies like our contestants. Christina suggests a “bacon and eggs” app that would feature pork belly and a quail egg, but Nona shoots it down due to the difficulty of opening up those eggs. I’ll say it now…if each of these people have gone on to become successful head chefs, having five of them that have to work together suddenly won’t be that easy. Christina thinks Nona is a diva. [...]
