Hi, Trashies. Sorry for the delay. By the time the site was back up after our little glitch, it just made more sense to do one massive recap. Thanks, as always, for being patient. I hope I can bring the extra funny to make up for it. Also, by now, I’m sure you know that Tamar had to pull out of the competition due to blood clots. That’s a shame. I thought she really had  shot at winning. It would have been nice to see Val win two in a row. I guess now it’s going to be between Bindi and Nick. Anyway, let’s get to the show, shall we?

So, it’s immunity night. You all know how that works by now, right?

First up, it’s Carlos and Witney. They’re dancing a salsa for Mark Anthony? Really? Also, if your name is Carlos PenaVega, I don’t think you get to be afraid of doing the salsa. That would be like me being afraid of bratwurst. Furthermore, how the hell is Mark Anthony an icon? Most people only know him as one of the guys who was married to Jennifer Lopez…who is, you know, actually kind of an icon.

I’m super happy there were no other dancers, but did Carlos kind of drop Witney when she jumped over him? Also, as a lipstick junkie, I have to say that I’m super jealous of how well Witney is pulling off that orange lip! I wish I could do that. Anyway, Julianne loves that the dance looked spontaneous the way a salsa should. Bruno yells that “Magic Carlos is back!” Then he compares the dance to the kamasutra. I’m not even surprised by anything Bruno does at this point. Carrie Ann felt that Carlos was a bit stiff in the beginning of the dance. Oh! She noticed the same mistake I did! Yay! I love it when I accidentally know what I’m talking about.

So…the video of shirtless Val and shirtless Carlos dancing together is pretty damn hot. Just throwing that out there.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 9
Julianne – 9
Bruno – 9

I’m OK with that. It was pretty good.

Next up, Alek and Lindsay are dancing about Chris Kyle – the guy from American Sniper. So, yeah, it’s another ‘Merica! themed dance. Basically, Alek is having a hard time thinking of himself as a hero.

As always, it was a dance filled with a lot of power and little emotion. Isn’t it Alek’s turn to be eliminated already? Bruno and Tom start off by talking about how hard it is to just judge the dance after hearing the story. Anyway, Bruno says that the dance had really good moments and really shaky moments. Carrie Ann feels like there wasn’t a mistake; Lindsay’s toe just got caught in Alek’s collar. So, how is that not a mistake? Julianne wishes that there had been more side-by-side combination dancing since this was a contemporary routine.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 9
Julianne – 8
Bruno – 8

That seems super generous. The guy isn’t improving. Why are his scores going up?

Andy picked Stevie Wonder as his icon. Also, we’re getting the sob story about Andy’s mom again and there’s a lot of crying. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sad that he lost his mother. However, on this show, stories like this will never not seem like a way to just get votes. Hell, Andy even says, “This is like one last dance with my mom.”

I actually really liked the dance. Andy really is coming into his own. Carrie Ann says that she felt the emotion in the dance and it was just beautiful. However, the emotions got in the way of the dancing a lot – Andy’s posture was just way off. Julianne just agrees with the negatives, but she gushes about the tribute to Andy’s mom. Bruno is weirdly calm which means the dance wasn’t good.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 8
Julianne – 7
Bruno – 7

I think that’s fair considering the legitimate criticism.

Alexa and Mark are dancing about David from the David and Goliath story. I guess it doesn’t get much more iconic than that. She makes it a metaphor for this competition. So, Mark will be dancing behind a screen the whole time? How would that even work?

So, I need to take this opportunity to push my favorite version of “Viva La Vida.”

Anyway, the dance made me kind of uncomfortable. The Argentine tango is supposed to be super sensual. Watching David and Goliath do that was just weird. A paso doble would have been so much better! Alexa ends the dance by just apologizing because she slipped in the middle of the dance and couldn’t get back up. Despite the slip ups, Julianne is happy that Alexa just kept going. Bruno just rants a lot, but he kind of agrees with me about the whole David and Goliath Argentine tango weirdness. Carrie Ann basically says the same thing that Julianne did – there were mistakes, but Alexa never let it consumer her.
