Hi, Trashbags (hmmm, that seems more hurtful than sexy). Welcome to yet another episode of The Amazing Race. This week, I’ll be trying my best to make lemons out of boring-ade, or something like that.
Last week, we saw the teams head to India, where BroCode had to double-up on a tough laundry Road Block only to get U-Turned by Quahog 5 (much to the chagrin of the tiny fists of Short PomPom) and get Philiminated by Phil’s Grandmother. Meanwhile, Morning Commute remained nigh-unstoppable with another first-place win.
With that very short recap-recap out of the way, we head into…
Morning Commute are naturally the first team to depart from in front of the Taj Mahal at 5:10pm. They need to travel to the Kachora Bazaar, where they’ll get their next clue. They also find out that there’s yet another UTurn in this leg. Is it just me, or has this been the screwiest-paced TAR in, well, ever? Three back-to-back “double” legs (two double and one non-elimination) and then 3 UTurns since leg 5. It’s made for a really awkward season.
Anyway, Marcel MC talks again about getting the record of 9 legs won. Shirin doesn’t care about the record — all she cares about is the last leg. They grab a tuktuk and discuss whether or not they’ll use the UTurn, and decide to use it on the Big Droppers, due to the games that Big Spender was playing in the airport.
Though Morning Commute leaving early isn’t surprising, what IS suprising is that Quahog 5 is only leaving 8 minutes later. It’s a pretty slim lead. They head off to the same location. They talk about this being their third second place finish, and how much that sucks. Can’t disagree there.
Big Droppers are leaving only 5 minutes later. We find out that Big Spender has been vomiting all night.
They told him that the tip was already included in his dinner bill
Quahog 5 are talking to the locals about their destination, and take off when they see Big Droppers. Big Spender drives me nuts by pronouncing it “took took”. But other than that, can you say “filler”?
We get to the Road Block: Full of Hot Air, where Phil is back to wearing manly(ish) shirts. In this Road Block, the team member must blow up balloons and fill a net with them. They must then take this sack via bicycle through terrifying India drivers and deliver them. Once there, the team member will get the next clue (and presumably head back for their partner). Marcel MC decides to do it. He’s making pretty good headway on it, with the gathered crowd saying “ooooh” every time he pops one. He’s playing to the crowd, throwing an occasional balloon to the little kids as he blows them up.
The PomPoms leave at 6pm, a good 37 minutes behind Big Droppers. Team Dean finally leaves the pit stop 28 minutes later.
Quahog 5 and the Big Droppers arrive to the balloons pretty much simultaneously. Either they took a REALLY long time getting there, or Morning Commute is really good, because MC’s net is already about 3/4 full when they’re just starting the task. Big Spender wants to look at the clue, but Ms Name Dropper keeps it away from him, saying that she’s doing it no matter what, in her normal nice tone. As she’s doing the task, he keeps telling her that she needs to hurry up, and she tells him to “get as far away from her as possible”. I concur. I still don’t like her. But I concur. She talks about this not being what she imagined when she heard they were helping with an Indian wedding. Then he TH’s that they might enjoy getting married at some time.
You guys should totally get married.
You know what else I heard is great to fix relationships? Kids.
Marcel MC is taking off, and the two teams there aren’t even halfway done. He’s driving through traffic, and it’s a pretty scary experience. Cars and tuktuks and motorcycles all pretty much drive wherever there’s space, and sometimes where there is none. Somehow, he makes it to the drop-off point and gets his clue. Meanwhile, Shirin MC is giving temporary tattoos to kids (which is sweet), and some creepy adults (which is not so sweet).
Tom from Quahog 5 News jokes about having trouble tying knots in the balloon, and that someday, he may “tie the knot” with Diane. I’ll admit when I’m wrong — these two seem to make a great couple, and for a change hearing the phrase “testing our relationship” doesn’t end with me saying “No. No. HELL NO!”, as it does with certain other couples (please see the previous picture).
Marcel MC arrives back from getting his clue, and finds out that they now need to head to the Goyal Book Store to get their next clue. The UTurn box is also there (which is really weird — isn’t it normally AFTER the Detours?)
