Dancing With the Stars Recap: You Be the Judge

Hi, Trashies. This week, on Dancing with the Stars, we’re bringing back the whole America-as-the-fourth-judge thing they did a few seasons ago. Oh, and there’s also the judges-team-up-challenge where I guess the judges work with two couples as a team. I’d kill to be taught how to dance by Len. He’d probably get really frustrated by my lack of an discernible dance talent.

Anyway, we start by finding out that Nyle and Peta are safe. (I do have to laugh when Tom says, “With any luck, they’ll hear us!” I know he was talking about the crowd cheering loudly, but come on! He had to have cringed after saying that.) With that, they’re up first with a paso doble. To give the audience the feeling of deafness, the music will completely cut away for a few moments. Unfortunately, the backup dancers aren’t used to dancing without music. Yet another reason why there shouldn’t be extra dancers at this point!

The silent part was unique and kind of cool. However, it was really hard to actually see the dance because of all the smoke. Len says there needed to be more shaping through the body on occasion, but he’s happy that Nyle always dances with purpose and he really is amazing. It really doesn’t take much to impress Bruno if he thinks that was mind blowing. Carrie Ann is crying because that’s what she does at lot these days.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 10
Len – 9
Bruno – 10
29/30
I have no problem with that. Len gave legit criticism. I’m not feeling the emotional impact that everyone else is. Am I missing something?

Time for more results!

Paige and Mark – SAFE!
Jodie and Keo – IN JEOPARDY!
Antonio and Sharna – IN JEOPARDY!

Yeah, that all makes sense.

Antonio and Sharna are up next. Antonio is coming in early (even before Sharna) to get his Viennese waltz perfect. Well, the dance part. He still thinks it’s the Vietnamese waltz.

I’m glad that Antonio wasn’t grinning the whole time (just some of the time). Unfortunately, he just looked terrified when not smiling. Why does Bruno talk to Antonio like he’s a toddler? Why am I questioning anything that Bruno does? Carrie Ann says that Antonio is now a dancer and this week’s hard work pulled off. He just needs to work a little more on the position of his shoulders. Len points out a loss in hold and posture a little bit, but he noticed the vast improvement in Antonio’s footwork.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 9
Len – 9
Bruno – 9
27/30
I think that’s fair. Granted, we’re at the point in the season where the scores start to be meaningless.

Jodie and Keo are on the bottom of the leader board this week. Keo is bummed because he’s been seeing articles that claim he is the one bringing Jodie down. I’m not saying that’s true, but I think we have to point out that Jodie did her best dance the week she danced with Val. Keo is clearly a great dancer. I don’t know that he’s the greatest teacher.

OK, so we have to talk about how pretty Jodie looked in that church lady helmet hair. Seriously, how is the girl pulling that off? Also, I think we have to point out that this is the first time it has looked like she and Keo are having fun on the dance floor. Carrie Ann says that Jodie’s star is just continuing to rise. Len is grinning like crazy. He is really happy to see that Jodie is no longer nervous about dancing. No other dance has made him so happy as this jive. Bruno uses his time as an excuse to stand up and flail.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 10
Len – 10
Bruno – 10
30/30
It was a great dance, but I think they’re grading Jodie and Keo on a curve at this point.

Once again, I always forget that Paige is still on this show. Then I remember how much I really like her. I don’t follow Mark’s Game of Thrones/Romeo and Juliet concept at all. I think I like Paige’s Monsters, Inc. idea better. Can we do that now?

It’s really cool to see Paige be so emotionally invested in each of her dances. The MMA fighter would have been the last person I’d expect that from – especially considering her “can’t break down her walls” story line. I guess the dance was good. once again, the smoke made it a bit too hard to see. Len gives a few nitpicky comments (it is getting down tot he wire, after all), but Paige is an exceptional dancer. I don’t hear much of what Bruno says because I’m super distracted by his glittery jacket. Carrie Ann is super impressed by the concept and this was Paige’s most multidimensional performance.
