5 boob headYou guys! It’s time for the newest season of Face Off! I go to a lot of sci-fi/fantasy conventions (of course I do) and one of my favorite things to do is talk to makeup/special effects artists and ask them how they feel about shows like this – I met a few people who claimed they made it through casting for Face Off but when handed the contract they were horrified with a lot of the stipulations where essentially SyFy (allegedly) would own all work made by them after the show for a few years. I think that comes up with a lot of reality shows and it’s a fine line between getting national exposure and having no control/ownership of your art.  That could be all gossip so if any of you know anything further feel free to share it in the comments, to me it adds to my curiosity of if it’s worth it for one’s career to appear on this show.  And what talent we’re missing out on. Anyway! Onward! Let’s begin, it’s the pilot so we have a lot of faces to get to know, which means this recap is going to be a lot longer than usual and very picture heavy. Bear with me folks. We’re told it’s an “extreme” season. Well that seems arbitrary.  But sure, anything for the ratings, ammiright?  I missed this show so much I don’t even care, it’s like Top Model, even when it’s crazy for no reason it’s still amazing. Time for introductions – I’ll do a screengrab of each artist and one of their works so you can get a general idea if you hate their style already – you’re welcome.  We start with George from Puerto Rico.  His wife is pregnant so he wants to win for his daughter.  Also we find out later he broke his hand 3 weeks before coming to be on the show, which seems like a pretty severe limitation. Meet GeorgeNext up is Chloe. As a woman in special effects make-up she has to prove herself everytime. Uh I think it’s actually a lot of women in your industry based on what I’ve seen in previous seasons,  but sure.  I think more of the issue is that she’s 22 which is more of a legit reason for people not to take her seriously.  Her work is stunning however, I think she’s probably someone to be feared. Meet ChloeTyler just quit his job as a dental lab technician. His makeup seems a little cartoony and not very… realistic. That said it’s still interesting. I don’t think he’s going to stick around all that long. Meet TylerRashaad is next, he’s only doing special effects part time since he has to support his fiancé and his son by working in fast food.  His portfolio is also badass and apparently I have a thing for people with stupid hair, because I already love him and Chloe the most. At least I know what works for me. Meet […]
