Downton Abbey S4 Ep3 SliderPreviously on Downton Fellowes used rape as a plot device in a ham-fisted, idiotic way that made me want to kick baby pandas.  People wore lovely clothes at a party and Mary was almost human. The show opens the day after the Rape Concert with Anna walking to work alone.  Bates finds her and asks what is wrong, was it something he did?  She brusquely answers, “No one’s done anything” because that’s not at all suspicious and rushes into breakfast.  She sits down beside Gillingham even though there’s an empty seat on the other side beside Mrs. Hughes.  Let me repeat that:  she voluntarily sits down beside the man that raped her less than 12 hours ago instead of beside the woman that helped her afterwards.   So tonight’s going to be more illogical behavior in favor of this dumb ass storyline.  Thomas asks about her bruises.  She claims she fell then rushes off without eating. Bates takes the seat Anna should have.  He asks Mrs. Hughes if Anna told her anything about how she was injured.  Gillingham eavesdrops openly but no one notices.  Mrs. Hughes says she doesn’t no anything.  Everyone’s a bit quiet and grumpy this morning but Thomas who wonders why.  Carson pretty much accuses anyone in a good mood before noon of being a vulgar American.  As the guests leave Gillingham tells Carson the party was one he’ll never forget. Mrs. Hughes hears him and tries to shoot laser beams at him with her eyes.Or she would if lasers had been invented. As Edith walks Rochester out Robert thanks him warmly for saving his bacon.  The card sharp asks for his IOU back like the others.  Rochester seems disinclined until Edith asks him to.  But he warns the man not to play cards in any clubs again or he’ll be unmasked for the cheater he is. The older lady Tom’s been paired with most of the weekend stops him to say goodbye.  She’s very sweet and tells a story of how she was after her husband died so he’ll know that his stand-offish behavior all weekend was understood. That generic blonde dude who was flirting with Rose all weekend wants to see her again in London.  She’s not “out” yet but hopes they can. MUST WE WATCH EVERY PERSON LEAVE INDIVIDUALLY? THIS COULD NOT BE MORE BORING UNLESS IT INVOLVED ALGEBRA. As the Pirate leaves he remarks to Mary that he doesn’t really like his valet, Gillingham.  Robert sees them talking and wants to say goodbye but Cora stops him.  She doesn’t think they should interrupt and it’s fairly obvious she’s pushing hard for a romance between them.  I say again:  HER HUSBAND HAS BEEN DEAD SIX MONTHS, BACK OFF!  Cora is also wearing the same white and black dress s the day the party opened which I find odd.  I can’t remember them ever showing one of the women wearing the same clothes twice. The Pirate wants to see Mary again.  She declines claiming she’ll be too […]
