Hi, Trashies. It’s week three here on Dancing with the Stars. You know what that means! Let’s break out the sob story and do the Most Memorable Year dances!
First up, it’s Ginger and Val with a contemporary routine about 2013 when she and her husband got engaged. Apparently, their entire relationship is based around a fountain where they shared almost all their firsts. OK, it’s really damn cute that Ben (Ginger’s husband) framed the sheet music for the song “Home” by Phillip Phillips for them to hang in their first home. I kind of want to do that.
I feel like it’s really easy to make a contemporary dance look good. You can really hide any weaknesses with choreography. This is the one time that I’m OK with a dancer having a huge grin plastered on their face the entire time. This was a really happy dance. Len says that dance is marriage between music and movement and Ginger pulled that off. However, on occasion, he would have liked a little more fluidity in the arms. He also calls out the audience for booing like wimps. Bruno says the word “very” a lot. Hopefully that’s complimentary. Carrie Ann is on the verge of tears about how Ginger can give this as a gift to her child. I think Carrie Ann is drunker than I am.

Yeah, that’s about right. It was basically just fine.
Doug and Karina are up next with a waltz to “The Rainbow Connection.” I love that song so much, so here are some bonus points from me. Anyway, Doug always puts his family first because of the way he was raised. His parents did everything they could to make sure the kids wanted for nothing. In 2015, his parents died within minutes of one another. That’s sad, but strangely beautiful. It’s kind of cool that they didn’t have to spend time apart. OK, I gotta make a poop joke or something. This is Trash Talk TV, after all.
Just a few steps in and I’m positive that Carrie Ann will cry. It was a very simple waltz, but the emotional impact was awesome. It reminded me a bit of the waltz that Andy Dick performed a few seasons ago. I like calm Bruno. Calm Bruno should stick around more often. He says that it’s hard to criticize because of how emotionally connected Doug was. Unfortunately, there was a little fluidity lost. Yep, Carrie Ann is crying. I knew it. She will gladly give bonus points for emotional content because dance is about emotion. Len says the dance was a little unstable, but it had style and emotion. Karina and Doug really danced as one.

I feel like that’s fair. Yes, there was a lot of emotion, but it was just an OK dance.
Oh, hey, Kim and Sasha are going to dance about her time on The Facts of Life. I’m sure no one is surprised there. Well, kind of. Kim is dancing about when she booked a Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup commercial. That eventually led to her getting on Good Times and then The Facts of Life.
The dance was good, I guess. I was too distracted by Sasha’s amazing smile. Seriously, he’s adorable. Carrie Ann loves that Kim and Sasha are always perfectly in sync. Len says one good thing and Kim starts screaming. That gets Bruno to scream in a really high pitched voice. I have no idea what just happened. He says something about ninjas and divas. I need more wine.

Carrie Ann gave the nostalgia vote tonight.
Von’s most memorable year is 2016 because that’s when he won the Super Bowl and he won the MVP award. His dad never wanted him to play football, but his mom enrolled them in secret. I guess his dad really loves Von’s football playing now. “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins is the song that Von listens to before every game to get in the zone. Whatever works for you, I guess.
It was a fine contemporary routine. Like Ginger’s, it wasn’t really anything special. For me, emotion is what makes a contemporary dance stand out. It felt like Von was just doing some steps. Len likes that Von gives 100% every time. He doesn’t play safe. Bruno was too distracted by Von’s body to actually watch the dancing. Carrie Ann disagrees with Len and doesn’t feel like Von is living up to his full potential.

Did Len give any criticism? He usually justifies his scores.
Marla and Tony are dancing about 1993 when she gave birth to Donald Trump’s spawn. Despite the difficulties of being a single mom, Marla loves having the relationship she does with her daughter. That’s pretty much all we get.
