Flipping Out Recap: Scope of Work

Previously on Flipping Out…Jeff is “absolutely back to flipping” but he still seems to have a number of renovation projects.  Chaz Dean, Jeff’s friend and biggest client, is super busy, what with all the lawsuits, so their weekly hour-long meeting never feels like enough time to run through all of his properties.  We see more construction at Valley Vista to remind us they are living and working in a renovation.  Jenni waxes poetic about parenting as Jeff and Gage find out their surrogate Alexandra is pregnant.

It’s a new day at Valley Vista and the construction crew is making their usual amount of noise.  Jeff and Frank the contractor are going over various areas of the renovation side of the property while Gage trails behind silently, sneering between checks of his phone.  Does Gage have a problem with Frank?

The body language, the facial expression…I think Gage hates Frank

Gage is in the ceiling
Why is Gage inside the ceiling when Jeff and Frank get to be on real floor?

Jeff interviews that he’s been working with Frank for over ten years and he loves using Frank on his projects because Frank is creative and he does things the right way.  And then we get a reality TV kiss of death montage:

As most of you already probably know, any time a cast member, especially a tertiary cast member like Frank the contractor, is given a significant chunk of time at the beginning of an episode for a retrospective, it’s usually a sign of bad things to come.

Gage interviews that he really likes Frank, but he’s unimpressed with Frank’s ability to get things done on time – getting in estimates, finishing construction.  Sometimes Frank doesn’t even show up when he says he will.  I call that flaky.  But Gage thinks Frank’s work is impeccable, “when he finally gets there.”

Gage is not impressed, or he's really high
The face of a man who is not impressed.  Or really high.  Maybe both.

Gage asks about the schedule for this new portion of the renovation.  Frank can’t start until Saturday, which irritates Gage.  Jeff asks Frank “what about Anjelica?”  Frank says that since it’s Jeff’s personal home, Anjelica doesn’t need to be in the loop.  Who the fuck is Anjelica?  Turns out Anjelica is Frank’s wife, and she has recently stepped in the run the business side of Frank’s business while Frank does the construction.  My childhood dentist’s wife became his receptionist after he had an affair with a hygienist.  I wonder if that’s what’s happening here.

Jeff doesn’t sound thrilled with the changes Anjelica’s reign has brought to their relationship, but he sticks by Frank out of loyalty.  In an interview with Jenni, he explains that loyalty and commitment are two of the values Jeff most prizes.  He asks Jenni about loyalty, but as she starts to think of a response he calls her “Jenni Pulos Nassos ELWOOD” and she gets pissed fast.

Jenni pondering loyalty
Loyalty…loyalty, loyalty, loyalty….

Jenni fighting with Jeff about her ex husband's name
WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME BY MY ASS HOLE EX-HUSBAND’S LAST NAME?

They talk over each other, Jenni explaining that she’s divorced and she doesn’t use her ex’s last name anymore, and she’d appreciate it if Jeff wouldn’t use it either.  I suppose for Jenni loyalty is strongest shown in her years of standing by Jeff even through the millions of tiny annoying things he does like this.

Zoila’s up yay!  She’s taking lunch orders pretty early and Jeff wonders why she’s pushing him to decide.  She starts going off about how crazy it always is at the place they want to order from and how she can’t ever find anywhere to park.  Jeff shuts her down and asks Ashlyn to pick up lunch instead.

Ashlyn still works here
Ashlyn still works here

Zoila we're both parking so why does she get to go
Zoila doesn’t understand – they both will have to park

Zoila randomly flies into a tantrum.  Sending Ashlyn doesn’t remove the parking problem.  Jeff tells Zoila that while this is true, Ashlyn won’t get stressed about the parking like Zoila already is, and therefore Ashlyn will go pick up lunch.

Zoila's very unhappy place
This is not a happy face

Gage pipes in to clarify that Ashlyn is only going because Jeff asked her to, and that Zoila should dole out no retribution to poor little Ashlyn for…being grounded from picking up lunch?  I’m missing something.  Why is Zoila so mad?

Zoila's meltdown you attack me

Zoila's meltdown and this

Zoila's meldown nosy attack me too
“You attack me, and this…nosy, attack me too.”

Zoila is going on and on about how she feels attacked by Jeff and “the nosy one” Gage.  Gage asks to see Zoila’s fingernails, implying that she had gone to get them done that morning instead of whatever errand she said she was running.  Then this happens.

Zoila flips off Gage!

Zoila he want to see my fingernail
I’ll show you my fingernail, nosy

I still don’t have any idea why Zoila was so mad in the first place, but that was some funny shit.  Jeff is driving Jenni and Vanina to meet Mary and Marty and they’re discussing their San Deigo trip scheduled for Thursday.  They will be taking the 7:25 a.m. train and plan to meet with a developer who owns a number of units in a high-end high-rise called Park One.  The hope is that if Jeff is awarded one unit he will eventually be hired to do some of the other units, so it could be an important day for Jeff Lewis Design financially.
