Drag Race All Stars: HERstory

Welcome back to Drag Race All Stars!! Last week we watched our all stars play a snatch game for the ages. We got some Mae West realness and an impersonation of Alaska that was so bad, it deserved no comments. Alaska won the week and knocked off Miss Tatiana.

Post-elimination, we rejoin the group. They are all super proud of Alaska for eliminating Tatiana because it was a decision in line with the judges’ critique. They are also super proud of themselves for not sucking and not being eliminated because of the judges’ critique.

Now HOLD UP- if every week the queen only eliminate someone because the judge’s liked them the least, isn’t that the same as a judge eliminating them?? I wanted drama, not reasonable, levelheadedness.

We learn something very important about Alyssa: Bitch cannot count. She also maybe had too much powdered caffeine after the runway, if you know what I mean…

This week’s theme is a lipsync of the HERstory of the world. Alaska will play Eve. (Okay, some of this may not be actual history but rather ladies whose names people will recognize). Phi Phi will play Helen of Troy. Ginger is Catherine the Great, Detox is Marie Antoinette, Alyssa is Annie Oakley, Roxxxy will be Eva Peron, and Katya will be Princess Diana. The performance is a group choreographed dance.

Watching this show makes me wonder how much of these challenges are really surprises. Do they get the costumes supplied by the competition or do they know what to bring ahead of time. #thinkingtoodeeplyaboutdragrace I recognize I’m trying too hard to introduce reality into this show, but I can’t drop the thought.

screen-shot-2016-09-12-at-2-05-26-pmI know, I’m shutting up now.

Next, our intrepid queens go to learn choreography. I spy, with my little eye, a disaster. Ginger Minj is not the best dancer and is going to be dressed in a tent of a gown. The choreographer tells them all to dance better and dance funnier. I think that he will only be able to get one of those things.

They all go in deep to talk about times when each of them was threatened for doing drag. It’s actually poignant and makes me happy that fabulously offbeat children everywhere have this mainstream show as an example.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-39-20-amA god for all the little boys and girls.

The lip sync extravaganza is a crazy explosion.

Phi Phi plays a rocker Helen of Troy that had me in giggles.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-43-10-amDetox is slightly… off…. As Marie Antoinette.

Everyone pulled off their dances mostly very well. Alyssa Edwards is still my crazy Queen queen.

The runway show is space age, future drag themed and not necessarily my favorite.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-49-08-amThe future of drag is scary.

Our top queens this week are Detox and Alyssa (YESS). They get a vacation to Palm Springs. Florida. Is that a reward? Ginger Minj and Katya are the bottom two. That’s what Ginger gets for begging to finally not be safe.

After the two bottoms pay their respects to the two tops, the elimination lipsticks are chosen.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-56-11-amAlyssa is always the winner- the splits are the ultimate power move/sacrifice.

Voted off is Ginger (NOOOOOOOOoooooo) who I thought was a fabulous Catherine the Great but alas Alyssa did not find her heart to be pure and full of convictions. She takes the decision so very seriously, as one should.

Welp, that’s all for this week folks! This week was a little shorter, but none the less hilarious. Next week bodes to be fabulous, so I will see you all there!
