Ho boy, Trashellinas, the editing on tonight’s episode of Top Chef New Orleans was soooooooo fuuuuuuuuucked uuuuuuup. I get it that there’s going to be a certain amount of misdirection between the previews and the actual show itself, but when they pull this kind of breakneck shit during the course of the episode, it leaves you feeling cheated and more than a little enraged… or maybe that’s just me But first, we have our last QuickFire in New Orleans… and it’s a two-parter! First, the chefs have to put stuff on a fork and shove it in Gail’s mouth… provided she doesn’t spazz out and fling their food everywhere Two chefs are going to be out of the running for the QuickFire win after this part, and the remaining two are going to be duking it out to snag… a Toyota Corolla… backseat optional KIDDING, they’re awarding a brand new modern Corolla (and that awesome feeling of being a sell-out). All they have to do is cook a pepper or an eggplant while making shitty comments about the other chef’s skills. This win was a straight-up battle between tasty but simple vs. complex but fussy. The Elimination Challenge is where we find ourselves being misled a little. And speaking of misled, when I was a kid I used to think that word was pronounced “MY-zulled”. Anyhow, after a free dinner at La Gassy’s flagship restaurant, the chefs are asked to cook a dish that represents their “experience” in New Orleans… this kind of delicious could be difficult to translate We all know what’s going to happen: Illegal Carlos is going to make Mexican food, Atypical Shirley is going to make Chinese food, Straight Outta Compton is going to make Caribbean/Italian food, and PhillyDick Nick is going to make something stuffily French that has 489 ingrediences… and a smug superiority complex You will think things are pretty clear. You will be wrong. You may be happy after that, but I’m betting some of you will also be pissed. Also, Redemption Kitchen™ comes to an end, only not really because we won’t find out the winner until next week’s episode when they go to Maui. Check back in a few days for the full recap, and in the meantime, you can see last week’s recap (with a spirited comment debate) here. love, J-Mo :) Want more TrashTalk?
