Welcome back to Rock Springs, ND, the oil boomtown run by the powerful and attractive Briggs family. We have met Daddy Hap, Evil Son Wick (ESW), daughter-with-a-fling Lacey, and 2nd wife Carla. Tonight we meet Hap’s ex-wife Annie and I’m hoping she’ll be feisty (yes, because she’s a redhead. I only assume what TV tells me to assume.)
Previously: Billy and Cody are preggers with baby Drill Bit (ha!) and she was recently beat up in a robbery. Billy and ESW were presumably going to kill oil siphoner/murderer/ blackmailer/pill thug/Cody-attacker Gary when he gets away. Unfortunately for our villain, he is impaled on a tree stump and left for dead. Annie Briggs has been called by Clif Lundegren and granddaughter Emma, who have it in for Hap. They figure Annie’s Hap hatred and large piggybank will be the just what Billy needs to take the oil baron down. Dressed in her finest, Carla threatened Jules to tell ESW about the affair if it wasn’t ended for realz, however, Jules can’t resist her knight in shining bloody armor. Hap suspects his son of being evil and Jules finds a ski mask (sorry Drill Bitters, I incorrectly recapped it was a missing gun, though they mean the same thing: she knows).

ESW is freaking out about Gary but Billy thinks the authorities will assume the pill-addicted criminal fell and died. Of course some joggers find Gary in the woods.
The FBI tells ESW about a stolen government oil report possibly sent to his father and ask for his cooperation. He tells them to shove it up their asses and they threaten to assist Sheriff Harrison with any unsolved cases (ahem, his) if he tells anyone about the investigation.
Clif and Emma practically run Billy off the road to talk, since he isn’t returning their calls (rude). He’s heading to work at Briggs but the Lundegrens tell him the land next to McCutching is for sale and they found someone to finance him: Hap Hater Annie, provided she meet Billy in person. In Houston. Today.
“Want to see how the 1% roll?”
Briggs Oil Co. is officially being investigated – did someone rat them out? Ahmed is clean so he and Lacy are tasked with finding out if anyone has a secret that can be used as leverage by the Feds (hint: he’s in the next room).
Remember the food truck? A creepy looking dude orders the #6 with “special sauce” while casually flashing a $100 bill.
I’d pay him $100 to take the transitor knobs out of his ears
Jules knows ESW was involved in the siphon bust. He shows remorse and claims to be a better man but she ain’t having it and kicks him out. She doesn’t know if she’ll drop the dime on him.
Gary is wheeled through the ER and Cody recognizes him as her attacker. She calls her hubby who lies that he’s at work when he’s really in Houston. She doesn’t tell him Gary is (barely) alive.
Hap gets a call from attorney “Walt” and has to go to his office. Carla uses standard stalking techniques (the internet) to figure out Walt=Jules. Following up on her threat, she tells ESW to go to the Tack Room to see his father. (Side note: it’s great that they’re using fake names but will “Hap” still appear on Jules’ phone when he calls?) When Hap arrives, she forgoes tattling for a good old-fashioned romp, and guess who gets to witness it?

To meet the infamous ex-wife, Billy and Emma have to attend her gala, only to have their land proposal turned down. At least they got to get dressed up, eat amazing food and meet the stunning woman who gave birth to the evil oil siphoner. Billy is confused as to why she’d fly them in and allow them to eat her shrimp cocktail if she wasn’t interested – he thinks something is going on and asks if she’s still in love with her ex. Hap wishes.
This necklace probably cost more than a car house.
Hap and Sheriff Harrison meet secretly and confirm that the Feds are trying to use ESW to bust Hap for the stolen reports. Seems the Sheriff is keeping Hap informed, which isn’t the same as working for him, but my goodness Hap has everyone in his pocket.
Make room for the Sheriff
Ada found a book of matches from the local casino and since her and hubby Kess left Nigeria because of his gambling, she knows he’s up to no good. Cody busts him in a drug deal, claiming “I know you” which is hilarious since she’s been in town maybe a month. He denies denies denies. The couple later announce they’re going back home but promise to pay the Lefevers back their investment in the food truck.

Ahmed and bitchy Lacey are way behind the rest of the world as they finally realize ESW could be a Fed suspect. As usual they’re fighting: he tells her the next time you have something snarky to say, save it for your Twitter feed TTTV recap. Hahaha.
