Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Happiest Ballroom On Earth

Hi, Trashies. So, I’m still ridiculously happy that Mischa is gone. I got so many texts last week from my friends who were also thrilled that she’s no longer complaining on TV each week. With that, let’s get to Disney Night, shall we? Oh, and Zendaya is here as a guest judge because she’s already on Disney’s payroll.

Antonio is up first. His son is still super excited about getting to dance with his father. Despite all that, Sharna wants to get better because the judges still aren’t happy. They’re dancing to “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin and Sharna wants him to be a “pimp genie.” I’m gonna need “pimp genie” to be the name of my new band.

Watching this dance, I couldn’t help but wish that Wanya was the one performing this. His brand of smoothness would have been amazing. That aside, the dance was fine. I can’t imagine I’ll even remember it by the end of the show. Len, for some reason, thinks that the dancer inside Antonio has finally come out. I guess it wasn’t a very good dancer inside of Antonio. Zendaya just says that dance was fun and made her smile. Bruno says something about Antonio’s pimpness and Rockettes. Carrie Ann basically just hits on Antonio like she does.

Yeah, I guess. At least Len was realistic.

Marla and Tony are dancing to “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. I’ll spare you my usual rant about waltzes to songs that aren’t written in 3/4 time. Anyway, when Marla gets frustrated in rehearsal, she does cartwheels and handstands…which causes her to break a light. I hope that’s not an omen.

The elegance of the waltz realy suited Marla, but I was distracted by the fact that she was performing this barefoot. Also, Tony makes a really good looking prince. Zendaya throws out more compliments (because that’s what the guest judge’s sole job is), but she tells Marla that she needs to enjoy it more. Bruno calls the dance “literally fragrant.” So…it was smelly? Can we agree that we’re not listening to Bruno anymore? Carrie Ann’s favorite Disney Character is Ariel and she’s happy Marla brought her to life. However, Marla needs to be careful to keep her hands in character. Len simply calls it a solid performance.

YAY! Maks is the guest judge next week!

Seriously? I think that’s kind of low.

So, Nyle’s in a loincloth. Is there anything else we need to know? I love that Peta says that Nyle’s shirtlessness will be a treat for Bruno. There’s a realy stupid bit with Nyle acting as Tarzan and trashing the practice studio.

That was definitely the best dance of the night so far. It always amazes me that Nyle so perfectly dances with the music even though he can’t hear any of it. I’m pretty sure Bruno is just aroused. Carrie Ann calls Nyle “the happiest place on Earth.” Yeah, I think we need to cut off Carrie Ann’s cocktails for the night. Len says that he and Nyle have the same body. Because he’s Len, he says that there was a little too much extra, but the samba content was good. Zendaya liked whatever Len didn’t because she’s being paid to give compliments, remember? I keep forgetting she’s even here. She’s such a non-entity. C

Not surprising.

Doug is still feeling all the emotions from last week, but he’s ready to have some fun dancing to “A Spoonful of Sugar” from Mary Poppins. Unfortunately, he gets frustrated, throws one of his props, and breaks it. I love that Karina brings him down by saying, “Did it take you two days to become the legendary Doug Flutie?”

The cane work just reminds me of Sharna and Charlie dancing to “Step in Time” and this is not nearly as good as that one. Doug just seems terrified on the dance floor. That’s the best way to describe it. Carrie Ann saw the makings of a good routine, but Doug just didn’t deliver. Len liked that Doug got into character and it was fun and entertaining. However, the dance was out of sync a few times. Zendaya just repeats her “just enjoy it” critique. What is she here to contribute? Bruno jokes that the medicine kicked in halfway through the dance and the timing was slightly off.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 6
Len – 6
Zendaya – 6
Bruno – 6

Honestly, that was generous. Fortunately, Tom tells Doug and Karina that they’re safe for next week. Even Karina is surprised about that one.
