Hi, Trashies. So, last week was iconic dances night and tonight is icon night. They’re really running low on ideas this season, huh?
I feel like Jodie has been the first dancer a lot this season. Anyway, she and Keo are up first dancing a quickstep to Stevie Wonder’s “For Once In My Life.” Jodie is still in a lot of pain from the week before and Keo is worried that this will cause them to be one of the two couples going home this week.
I don’t feel like that song really lends itself to the quickstep. It’s so laid back and the frantic quickstep didn’t quite match up for me. Len loves that Jodie gave commitment and attack. She and Keo lost body contact a few times, but the energy was great. Bruno is standing and flailing, but calm. I’m not sure how to process that. Carrie Ann enjoys Jodie’s light aura tonight, but Keo missed a step at one point.
Scores:
Carrie Ann – 8
Len – 9
Bruno – 9
26/30
So, Carrie Ann is going to be the grump on the panel tonight.
Kim and Sasha are up next and I constantly forget that she’s even here. They’re both annoyed that last week’s scores were so low and they’re worried they’ll be going home. My guess is that they will be.
Kim seems to be the last of the filler. She hasn’t done anything too memorable and she’s not super charming or likable. Everything about her is “just fine.” She didn’t seem to know this dance very well. It looked like she was just watching Sasha the whole time to try to remember the movies. Bruno doesn’t know how to pronounce “effervescent.” Carrie Ann loves it when people get pissed because they bring their A game. That was Kim’s A game? Yeah, OK. Len tells Kim this was her best dance of the season. I think Len says that when he has nothing else to say.
Scores:
Carrie Ann – 9
Len – 9
Bruno – 9
27/30
Yeah, OK. Whatever.
So, Nyle and Peta are dancing to “Beautiful Day” by U2. If you’re going to pick U2 as your icon, at least pick one of their songs that’s actually iconic. Anyway, Peta thinks Nyle’s cocky comments were “taken out of context” and he’s just not the same. I hate it when people say something was “taken out of context” but don’t actually provide the actual context to make things look better. So, yeah, good try there, Peta.
I got kind of bored with that dance. Granted, that kind of sums up this entire season. Carrie Ann is happy to see the elegance despite the rock and roll energy of the song. Len criticizes Nyle’s posture at times, but that’s just being picky at this point. I wonder if Bruno’s flailing makes Nyle get distracted from watching his interpreter.
Scores:
Carrie Ann – 10
Len – 9
Bruno – 9 (but Bruno holds up and says 10)
28/30
So, this is happening again? Bruno tries to argue that he wrote a 10 and Tom just wants to know if he does his own taxes. When we come back from commercial, we see the scoring sheet where Bruno very clearly write 9. He needs to stop drinking.
Basically, Sharna and Antonio are really playing up the whole “we’re a team” thing after last week. That’s pretty much all we get of rehearsal.
I hate when the smoke machine is on high. It really obscures the footwork which is kind of a big thing in dancing. I am happy that Antonio didn’t have his cheesy grin slapped on his face the whole time. Len says he loved the attitude, but he saw a few mistakes throughout. Oh, shit! And Sharna has a nip slip on live TV. At least she laughs about it. Bruno declares that there will be extra points for Sharna! Carrie Ann thinks that the speed was a hindrance this week. The technique suffered.
So, Antonio’s coach doesn’t really give a shit that he’s on the show. Good to know.
Scores:
Carrie Ann – 8
Len – 8
Bruno – 8

Sorry, I don’t think that was worse than Kim and Sasha.
TEAM WANYA! (I’m going to say that every week.) Unfortunately, Wanya has a Boyz II Men event this week and misses a lot of rehearsal for both his dance and the group dance. There’s a lot of cursing on the phone from Wanya.
It’s nice to see Wanya do so well with such a traditional dance. I’m not a huge fan of the complicated scenery, but it was a good dance. I think Bruno flirts with Wanya a little. Carrie Ann doesn’t think the dance was quite up to Wanya’s level. She thinks he didn’t bring it as much as he usually does. Len says the dance was full of whimsy and joy, but Wanya lost his neck from time to time.
